About Our Teacher

Rivers Redclay has devoted her life to studying art, and has been practicing her trade for as long as she can remember. Her preferred medium is ‘nature’- she is passionate about anything that transforms natural resources into art. Egg tempera, charcoal, and, of course, clay. Her passion for pottery began in high school, with a ceramics class being her first foray into sculpting. She studied studio arts at Swarthmore college, and while attending discovered her second passion: her passion for teaching art.

While working as a math tutor, she noticed one of her students doodling- rather than discourage this creative (if mildly rebellious) act, she asked him to bring art supplies to class so she could tutor him in art between math lessons. She quickly found that her passion for learning art was equaled and even eclipsed by her passion for teaching it- ever since, teaching art full time has been her dream. After finishing her degree, the stars aligned and she was given an opportunity to teach ceramics and make pottery full time. She jumped at the chance, and Malibu Potteries was born.

Depending on numbers there will also be a support mentor (TBC).

Guest teachers include Anne Marie (The Way We Live- Sustainable Studio). Farmer Alex Weiser. Brigitte London (Animal care). Amy Smyth (Photographer & herbalist). Daniel George (Ceramist & Painter). Chef Thomas Drury (Cooking for the planet).
